The fire that broke out at the Inayawan landfill emphasized anew the urgency for the Cebu City government to relocate its overfilled waste site or get serious about reducing the daily truckloads of garbage being discharged there. When sought for an explanation, Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña could only say there wasn't sufficient soil cover being spread to keep fires from rekindling. CEBU City barangay captains who want to run for city councilor but will not be carried in the Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan (BOPK) lineup can expect to get more projects before the elections. Mayor Tomas Osmeña said he can make it up to them by giving additional projects, especially to those who already expected to be part of BOPK's councilorial slate.
